Jancy: Biography-Discography

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, by the name of Jan Emmanuele Díaz, Jancy developed his musical talent at a very young age in school performances and events throughout Puerto Rico, inspired by the maestro Vico C. 

In 1995, he first recorded an album with DJ Nelson titled Little Boys from the Underground, opening the door to other artistic ventures in Connecticut, New York, Santo Domingo, Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, and in Puerto Rico where he performed at various clubs, opening for artists such as Wissin y Yandel, el rapero Tempo, and Hector el Bambino. 

In his debut album, Pa’ que lo Bailes (translation: So You can Dance), Jancy shows off his lyrical and vocal talents in the style of Reggaeton, a blend of Jamaican reggae, American hip hop and rap, now all the rage in the Caribbean, Latin America and the U.S. Jancy, who began production on his first album in the Fall of 2005, pounds out rhymes and rhythms that extol the sensuality and excitement of the club scene and urban life in songs such as El Chukulún, co-written and performed with DJ Bill, Mami tu Quieres Perreo, and Quiero que lo Bailes Nena. 

In this highly anticipated first release, Jancy collaborates with several stars in the world of Hip Hop and Reggaeton such as Chief from Miami, Florida, on the bilingual track Set it Off as well as other well known artists such as Lennox and Mikey Perfecto. 

Toda la Noche features one of salsa’s top singer-songwriters, Mikey Perfecto, who wrote for and collaborated with the “Queen of Salsa,” Celia Cruz. This Jancy-Perfecto single is a romantic, danceable blend of Reggaeton and Salsa, currently being played on Washington DC’s most popular Spanish radio station, El Zol 99.1FM. Mami tu Quieres Perreo and El Chukulún are also being heard in the area’s latino stations as well as local dance clubs.  

In addition to Toda la Noche, Jancy’s album showcases songs that represent an evolution in the genre of Reggaeton; one which incorporates world beats. Una Noche Arabe reflects this evolution by combining the Reggaeton beat with sensual Arabic rhythms. This track features the multilingual lyrics and vocals of Morrocan Hip Hop artist Wissam. 

At the beginning of 2006, Jancy collaborated with Tampa-based Reggaeton artist Fantazma on a single and video titled Boricua sin miedo for the album Empire, produced by DJ Miguelito of Puerto Rico. Jancy and Fantazma’s chemistry is apparent not only in the video but also on the track, Dale Duro, a hard-hitting, bass-heavy tune which is featured on Jancy’s album. 

Jancy will soon be releasing the single Sexo Suspenso which features three talented Puerto Rican artists with Jancy: Lennox, of Zion y Lennox, one of RCA International’s recording stars, and the duo Charlee y Kingston. This song appears in two tracks on the album: one version in Reggaeton produced by Myztiko of Quebec, Canada, and the other version remixed in Hip Hop with calypso rhythms produced by Paul Estanislau of Famasor Media. This innovative producer also composed Set it Off, Una Noche Arabe, and the Salsa Remix of Toda la Noche for Jancy’s album. The Hip Hop Remix of Sexo Suspenso substitutes a rap in English by El Indio of New York for Lennox’s Spanish rap which is expected to appeal to English-speaking Hip Hop listeners. 

Other producers that collaborated with Jancy on Pa’ que lo Bailes include DJ Miguelito and Yamil, Maveryk, DJ Blaster and Julio “Duce” Martinez. DJ Miguelito, owner of Link Music, features two of his artists in Jancy’s album: Waidy in the bonus track titled Todo para Mi, and Kali in the song Papi lo que quiero es Figa. 

In August of 2006, Jancy was invited by WyClef Jean to come on stage during his promotional tour in the Washington, DC area. This superstar recently collaborated with Shakira and was introduced to Jancy during a Verizon-sponsored presentation in Alexandria, Virginia. Jancy hopes to collaborate with this giant of the music industry on a future production.
