El Unique Rain Forest
El Yunque is the sole tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System. The rain forest is famous for its biodiversity. Thousands of native plants, including 150 fern species, 240 tree species (88 of these are endemic or rare and 23 are exclusively found in this forest). The Caribbean National Forest has no large wildlife species, but hundreds of smaller animals abound in this gentle forest, many of which exist nowhere else on the planet!The rain forest is very accessible. The Museum of Puerto Rican Music is where you will find an interesting showcase of the history of Puerto Rican music, featuring Indian, Spanish and African musical instruments. The Museo Castillo Serralles on Vigía Hill, once home to one of Puerto Rico's sugar barons, is a beautiful mansion with Moorish and Andalusian details.Visit the Tibes Indian Ceremonial Centre, a short drive from Ponce.
